Alright. I have been into dioramas for the past few months.
Here's what I have to show for it! These are acrylic on wood with various mixed media on the 3D parts.

I love breakfast so hard. Part of the nourishment show, this is acrylic on panel. Those stripes in the finish are unintentional and the result of my inability to use anything that comes in an aerosol can...besides hairspray.

Nancy's traveling picnic

This is for Nancy, who is my lovely wife and best friend. She draws us as a little bird and a dinosaur, so this is a 3D incarnation of those characters. If anyone is a REAL photographer, I'd love to have a photo of this that looks less like crap. The box is meant to look like an old-fashioned suitcase or picnic basket, emphasizing the take-and-play fun of picnics. We also drink tea and coffee together all night to stay up at the studio and the idea of enjoying those beverages during day light hours and outside is hilariously foreign to us.
These photos are stinkers, so come see it in person at our show on the 14th!

The box is wood, and glass, wrapped in burlap and painted in acrylic with vinyl corners and furniture tacs. Inside is super sculpey! with felt and some old clothes, antique beads and poly fill.

Arch nemesis of the Good Lunch, these guys are acrylic on panel. That cupcake's face was modeled after the unibomber, but something is lost in the translation to chocolate cake. More food jokes to come so check back!

Oh my gosh. So excited. I have been thinking I was almost done with this thing for a week now. And I finally am! Ultimately, I will put a super thick and shiny layer of table-top epoxy on the whole thing so it will shine like the dickens. It's acrylic on wood panel.

Nags Head

This is a historical illustration for the Outer Banks, North Carolina. This area is called "the Graveyard of the Atlantic" because of its record number of ship wrecks. One of the major cities on the Outer Banks, Nags Head, is named after the practice of pirates tying lanterns to their horses necks and walking them along the beaches at night in order to be mistaken for floating ships. This would cause unsuspecting ships to run aground and fall victim to the pirates' pillaging! I used watercolor, acrylic and oil on illustration board.

This is a portrait of my friend Wendy that I gave her for Christmas. She loves candy so much we gave her the nickname "Type 2." The day after Halloween, she came home with 4 plastic shopping bags full of discounted mini-size candy bars, emptied them all into a purple suitcase (weekend sized) and has been eating out of it every day since. She is also the person who suggested that a way to improve upon a bowl of Count Chocula cereal is to hide a scoop of ice cream at the bottom.

Sooo, I'm on the internet now, as an artist. This is it. I made this bunny diarama last year and it's my favorite piece to date. I made the box in woodshop and had the bunny leftover from some felt monsters I'd made people for Christmas. The banner and the skull are made of bakeable polymer clay. All the paint is acrylic.
